Tanzania, Kilimanjaro ascent: Machame route.
Climbing Africa's highest mountain is much more than a sporting challenge. Located in northern Tanzania, right on the Kenyan border, the ascent takes you through a variety of landscapes: from rainforests and giant heath forests to the 4,000-meter-high moorlands, and finally to the high mountains and their African glaciers, culminating at the 5,895-meter summit. This high-altitude trek—including the legendary peak—is within reach of well-trained hikers, and if you follow the classic routes, in this case the beautiful Machame trail, it presents no technical difficulties.
